The Residential Program
St. Peter’s Village offers a residential
treatment program for abused, abandoned or neglected
adolescent boys (aged 9-17), with mild to moderate
emotional, behavioral, social and/or learning problems.
The New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (D.Y.F.S.)
refers all placements. St. Peter’s philosophy is to
provide specialized care, including on-site therapeutic
counseling, designed to prepare the boys to become
productive and self-sustaining citizens, while maintaining
a warm and supportive, family-like atmosphere.
Pre-Independent and Independent Living
Programs
In June of 1993, St. Peter’s Village began
an Independent Living Program. This specially designed
facility houses up to four young men who have graduated
from the Residential Program at St. Peter’s. The
Independent Living Program offers its residents the
opportunity to better prepare themselves for life on their
own.
In
March of 1995, St. Peter’s began a Pre-Independent Living
Program to provide a transition from the Residential
Program to the Independent Living Program. Residents enter
this program around age 15, depending on their maturity
and motivation. The program is operated by our Program Coordinator,
and is designed to help the young men develop the skills
that will be expected of them in the Independent Living
Program.
Activities
St. Peter’s maintains four vehicles to
transport the children to a variety of parks and
recreational facilities easily accessible from St. Peter’s
Village’s. In the summer, the boys often spend their free
time at the on-site, outdoor pool, basketball court, and
baseball field. Field trips such as canoeing, hiking,
cultural events and amusement parks are also planned for
the boys’ education and entertainment.
Education
The boys of St. Peter’s attend parochial,
public, private or special education schools. Their formal
education is supplemented by study time and reading
sessions, which are supervised by qualified staff and
volunteers.
Scholarships
The educational opportunities available to
the boys do not end at the High School level. An education
fund has been established at the Village for any boy with
the ability, determination, and desire to further his
education. Donations are accepted towards this educational
fund.
Funding
St. Peter’s Village is funded by the New
Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, through
sources of private support and from public donations.
Public Participation
Public participation directly with the boys
is encouraged through the Villages’ Volunteer Program.
Through the Volunteer Program community members are able
to assist the boys develop their reading and study skills.
Staffing
With an on-site staff including an
Executive Director, Program Coordinator, Consulting
Psychologist, Nurse, Mental Health Clinicians, and other
professional consultants, St. Peter's Village is uniquely
